A LITTLE ABOUT ME
My name is Priscilla Ornelas but you can call me Peaches. I live, work, and paint in Roswell, New Mexico where my father moved us from California when I was a child.
Painting has always been my greatest vice and joy. In fact, painting even taught me how to read and write by bridging the gap between Spanish and English. Art is the third language I speak. An empty canvas and the smell of oil paints transports me to my happiest place, where time and worries fade away. The best day ever for me would include a great art museum, fabulous food, and painting.
Primarily self-taught, I have always gravitated toward expressing myself creatively. I’ve taken many art classes but my favorite ways of learning are sitting down to work and asking endless questions of artists I meet. The style of my work has evolved naturally over time but it tends toward realism.
I surround myself with beauty and revel in the natural beauty of the southwest. In my recent work, I have painted familiar local scenes. I love the blend of peacefulness and chaos in our natural and urban landscape. My hope is that my art gives the viewer a sense of a peace, nostalgia, and comfort.
My work has won awards from both Eastern New Mexico University- Roswell and the Roswell Fine Arts League. I have also donated work to the Roswell Interarts Organization’s Soup ’N Bowl and to silent auctions for CASA in Chaves County. I enjoy attending and volunteering at art events and am active in the Young Professionals for the Arts Collective.
Some of my favorite artists include Andrew Wyeth, Peter Hurd, Kim Wiggins, David Hines, Lee Price, Edward Hopper, Shawn Huckins, and Mike Bayne.
